Revendications syndicales : Sonko met en garde contre une pression qui pousse “à bout” l’État
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko devoted a significant portion of his speech to the issue of trade union demands, in an economic context that he described as particularly constrained.
According to him, the state is facing an "abysmal" debt that severely limits its budgetary flexibility. "The Senegalese people must understand that there is no wealth to distribute yet," he insisted, calling for collective realism.
Agreements signed, new demands
The head of government highlighted a trend he considers worrying: the signing of agreements followed by new demands. "We sign an agreement and they demand another," he declared, even mentioning the emergence of "new demands" within certain union platforms. For him, this situation reflects the scale of financial commitments accumulated over the years, in a context where state resources remain limited.
A firm warning
While acknowledging the right of unions to defend the interests of their members, Ousmane Sonko warned against excessive pressure on public finances. "We must not be pushed to the limit, otherwise the State will respond," he cautioned, in a tone intended to be both firm and dissuasive.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for a shared effort. According to him, economic recovery requires collective sacrifices. "We will pay this debt together," he affirmed. He then launched "an appeal to the social partners to act responsibly, as the government attempts to reconcile social dialogue with the imperatives of budgetary stability."
