“Vous avez tué Abdoulaye Ba…” : Abdou Mbow charge Yacine Fall à l’Assemblée
A new clash has erupted in the National Assembly of Senegal. During parliamentary debates, MP Abdou Mbow virulently addressed the Minister of Justice Yacine Fall, accusing her of bearing political responsibility for the recent university crisis.
"You killed Abdoulaye Ba, starved the students, hunted down their leaders and blamed the opposition," he said from the chamber, referring to the events that took place at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD).
In his statement, Abdou Mbow denounced what he considers an excessive security-focused approach to the university crisis. According to him, the death of student Abdoulaye Ba cannot be separated from the climate of tension, the restrictions on campus, and the interventions of the security forces.
He also mentioned difficult living conditions for students, speaking of "starvation" and pressure on student leaders, while accusing the government of trying to blame the unrest on the opposition.
On the government side, some MPs defended their actions by highlighting the need to maintain public order and to allow justice to establish responsibilities within the framework of ongoing investigations.
