"Yoro Dia ou la trahison de l’exigence d’honnêteté" : Mimi-2024/Thiès répond à l'ancien ministre de Macky Sall
"Yoro Dia's stances in the Bougar Diouf exclusion affair mark less a political disagreement than an ethical collapse. By describing this exclusion as a "minor quarrel" and contrasting it with a supposed "major quarrel" linked to the UN, Mr. Dia is not demonstrating critical intelligence: he is abdicating his role as an intellectual to assume the much more trivial one of partisan communicator."
This is the response given to the former minister of Macky Sall by the Mimi-2024/Thiès coordination.
For those close to the former Prime Minister, "a true intellectual belongs to no camp; they have only one obligation: that of intellectual honesty." They believe that an intellectual is not a high-flying activist tasked with cloaking opportunistic positions in lofty rhetoric. Their mission is not to relativize rules when they clash with their personal preferences, but rather to remind everyone that all political action is subject to principles.
According to Lamine Sène and his associates, coordinator of Mimi-2024/Thiès, "by legitimizing blatant indiscipline in the name of some abstract grandeur, Yoro Dia trivializes a basic political error: publicly challenging the line of a coalition to which one claims to belong. This is not courage, it is inconsistency." They believe that "the seriousness of this stance also lies in its hypocritical nature."
He emphasized: "As an advisor to Macky Sall, Yoro Dia long operated within a system where discipline was a cardinal value, sometimes even imposed authoritatively. At no point during the Benno Bokk Yaakaar era did he defend the right of a coalition official to hold a press conference to publicly denounce the regime's excesses. What was yesterday considered treason is today celebrated as clear-sightedness. This reversal is not intellectual: it is purely opportunistic."
Even more worrying, lament Mimi Touré's relatives, is that "Yoro Dia is positioning himself as Bougar Diouf's moral mentor, having largely helped to train and legitimize him in the public sphere." They regret that "instead of teaching him discipline, restraint, and a sense of collective responsibility, he is offering him symbolic endorsement that transforms indiscipline into a heroic stance."
They believe that "this is no longer intellectual transmission, it is ideological conditioning: a pedagogy of political disorder disguised as critical thinking".
Faced with this drift, Lamine Sène and his colleagues reiterate that "the position of the Diomaye-President coalition, firmly embodied by Aminata Touré, appears to be the only coherent and republican one. Reminding people of the rules, sanctioning deviations and demanding organizational loyalty is not revenge, it is an institutional minimum. A coalition that tolerates permanent public dissent condemns itself to implosion and insignificance."
"Ultimately, the real scandal is not the exclusion of Bougar Diouf; it is the moral abdication of Yoro Dia as an intellectual. When a thinker chooses his side at the expense of the truth, he ceases to be a critical conscience and becomes a mere agent of justification. And it is precisely at that moment that he loses all legitimacy to speak in the name of honesty, greatness, or the Republic," they conclude.
