Gamou Tivaouane 2025 : Le CRD acte les engagements pour une célébration à la hauteur du message prophétique
A Regional Development Committee (CRD) dedicated to the continuation of preparations for the annual Gamou of Tivaouane, in September 2025, corresponding to the 12th day of the holy month of Rabi' al-Awwal, celebrating the luminous birth of the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (PSL), was held this Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Thiès Governance.
It was under the presidency of Governor Saër Ndao, in the presence of religious dignitaries making up the delegation of the General Caliph of Tidianes, including Serigne Habib Sy Serigne Mansour, Serigne Moustapha Sy Al Amine, Serigne Babacar Cissé, Serigne Abdoul Hamid Sy, president of the Zawiya Tidiane Cell, and representatives of COSKAS, Federations and Dahiras of Hadara.
The CRD has resolved to consolidate the commitments made during the CDD held on July 8 in Tivaouane, and to add the adjustments required to cope with the growing scale of this event of high spiritual significance, which attracts millions of pilgrims each year.
The Ministry of Health and Social Action reaffirmed the establishment of seven fixed points, 61 advanced medical posts (PMA), mobile units, as well as the mobilization of 2,000 health workers, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and first responders. A medical helicopter and a hospital truck stationed in Pout will be pre-positioned for emergency evacuations. The new Seydil Hadji Malick SY hospital will be operational, and the emergency department will be strengthened. The plea for an increase in the supply of medicines (50 million FCFA over the past 20 years) was reiterated emphatically. COSKAS will receive 200 high-quality tents for PMAs.
Health vigilance and community mobilization
A health army of 350 agents supported by municipal volunteers will be mobilized for indoor fogging, food and water control, dusting, and household awareness. ONAS plans to install 30 sewage trucks, 70 mobile toilets, and clean out overflow basins. Motor pumps and hydro-cleaners will be deployed at critical points to prevent disruptions caused by rainwater.
Senelec is placing the town of Tivaouane under priority and surveillance, with planned extensions of 43 km, 1,500 streetlights, and 3,000 meters available for new connections. Electricity supply to camps, parking lots, religious homes, and strategic sites will be ensured. At the same time, SEN'EAU and SONES are announcing 1,000 social connections, 350 public water points, and a 30 km network extension. Rural water supply will be supported with 50 tanker trucks and quality water tanks.
The National Police will mobilize 3,000 officers, supported by the Gendarmerie and the ASP, with mixed advanced posts, barriers, anticipated traffic plans, and regulated shopping areas. Particular attention is being paid to the Great Mosque, mausoleums, and access routes such as Pout and the Rn2. The firefighters, for their part, will strengthen their presence with revised fire hydrants, 30,000-liter trucks, and first aid training for dahiras.
Roads, mobility and communication: for a fluid and connected city
Ageroute has pledged to intensify work on filling potholes, repairing the western bypass, installing speed bumps, and installing horizontal and vertical signage on the main roads. On the communications front, Diakoula Cissé of the Zawiya Tidiane Unit confirmed that Sontale and its partners will strengthen network coverage, install Wi-Fi hotspots, giant screens, and a connected press area, in addition to renewing the social component for COSKAS.
