Tabaski 2026 : la CMS fixe la célébration pour le mercredi 27 mai
The Coordination of Muslims of Senegal for the Observation of the Lunar Crescent (CMS/OCL) officially announced, this Sunday May 17, 2026, the start of the month of Dhul Hijjah 1447 of the Hegira, after confirmation of the appearance of the lunar crescent in several countries.
Meeting in accordance with its observation mission, the commission indicated that it had gathered reliable information from its national and international correspondents. According to the statement, the crescent moon was sighted notably in Mauritania, Algeria, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, as well as in several countries in Europe and the Middle East.
As a result, Monday, May 18, 2026 will mark the first day of the month of Dhul Hijjah in Senegal according to the CMS.
The dates chosen for Arafat and Tabaski
Based on this announcement, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 will correspond to the Day of Arafat, a major spiritual moment for Muslim pilgrims, while the celebration of Tabaski (Eid al-Adha), also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, will take place on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
This long-awaited declaration allows thousands of Senegalese faithful to better prepare for this important religious festival, marked by prayer, ritual sacrifice and family gatherings.
A key moment for the Muslim community
Each year, the announcement of the beginning of Dhul Hijjah is a crucial step in the organization of the Muslim religious calendar. Eid al-Adha, one of the most important festivals in Islam, symbolizes faith, sharing, and solidarity.
The CMS/OCL concluded its message with a prayer, invoking the acceptance of the good deeds of the entire Muslim community.
