Aux origines de la grande Ziarra générale
The grand general pilgrimage (Ziarra), an occasion for the City of Mawlana Cheikhal Hadj Malick Sy, a sacred place of absolution and purification for Tijani disciples, to reconnect with religious fervor, was initiated in 1930 by the illustrious Serigne Babacar Sy Cheikh-Al Khalifa, who, in his time, invited the faithful to embrace these five recommendations: "one's religion, one's tariqa, one's profession, one's dahira, one's path to Tijaniyya." This summarizes the entire meaning of this commemoration, which the first Khalif of Maodo, Cheikh-Al Khalifa Serigne Babacar Sy (RTA), chose to symbolize the renewal of the pact between the disciple and the spiritual master responsible for spiritual education (tarbiyya).
Regarding the history of this religious event, it is noted that "Dahira was the first Dahira to be created, in 1927, by the first Khalif of Maodo, Sheikh-Al Khalifa Serigne Babacar Sy (RTA). It was only in 1930 that, through the will of his followers, the Dahiratoul Kiram was established to dedicate one day of the year to a pilgrimage of enlightenment, and also with the blessing of the Khalif. This pilgrimage, known as Ziarra, offers all followers an opportunity to revere two fundamental principles in Islamic Sufism: 'allegiance (Moubaya): Diayaneté' and 'commitment (AQD): Kolëré'."
This is the school which consecrates spiritual education as essential in the life of the Muslim and which requires for this purpose a face-to-face meeting between spiritual Master (shaykh tarbiya) and aspirant (murid) for the purpose of an initiation for moral elegance and renunciation of all selfish pleasures.
