Police and Gendarmerie: The era of body cameras and electronic payment is coming

In a move towards modernization and transparency, the Ministry of the Interior has begun the widespread adoption of electronic payment terminals (PDAs) for settling traffic fines. Addressing members of parliament, Minister Bamba Cissé outlined the scope of the deployment: "Approximately 200 devices are currently in use, but 2,500 new terminals have been ordered and will soon be deployed."

The objective of this reform is twofold. Firstly, it aims to reduce direct monetary contact between officials and offenders, thereby limiting the risks of corruption. Secondly, this system aims to significantly improve the traceability of payments for the benefit of the public treasury.

In addition to payment terminals, another major innovation was announced: the gradual deployment of body cameras to police and gendarmerie forces. These devices will allow for real-time filming of operations, thus ensuring better protection for officers while increasing transparency for citizens.
