Bignona : Le DG du Port autonome de Dakar équipe le centre de santé d'une radiographie
Through its foundation, the Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD) equipped the Bignona health center with an X-ray room. The reception took place in the presence of local authorities and elected officials, under the direction of Mayor Bacary Diatta and PAD Director General Waly Diouf Bodian.
A great sigh of relief for the people of the department, according to the mayor, who welcomed the support of the Autonomous Port of Dakar and the foundation. "The people of the department of Bignona, and particularly the commune of Bignona, have been through a long period of ordeal, during which they were forced to travel to Ziguinchor, even to have a very small X-ray. We can now express a sigh of relief thanks to the support of the Autonomous Port of Dakar Foundation, which kindly provided the health center with a state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine. This support, of very high social significance, is thanks to the leadership of Brother Waly Diouf Bodian, Director General of the port and Chairman of the Board of the Port Foundation," said Bacary Diatta.
For two years, the only radiology unit in Bignona was inactive due to a lack of equipment. This donation will provide relief to medical staff who were powerless to cope with the suffering experienced by patients. "This equipment arrives in a context of real need. It will allow the reopening of the radiology unit, which remained closed for two years. During this entire period, our patients were forced to travel in difficult conditions to the health facilities in Ziguinchor just to have an X-ray and return. This latest-generation digital radio will allow us to strengthen the safety of healthcare services and reduce certain social inequalities in health, in accordance with the policy of the Head of State in the new Senegal 2050 public policy framework," praised the head doctor of the Bignona health district.
Dr. Lamine Sagna added that this device will also help strengthen the capacity of staff to establish accurate diagnoses as quickly as possible, in order to improve access to quality care for the 298,211 inhabitants of the Bignona department.
The chief physician also took the opportunity to discuss some of the difficulties facing the department, which has three health districts and 78 health centers for a dense population. "These facilities face many difficulties in caring for patients because there is no permanent ultrasound machine in the department. The ultrasound we have here does not allow our specialized providers to properly care for our patients," he lamented.
For the Director General of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, this gesture is part of a desire to make quality health services accessible and to strengthen the technical platform of the Bignona health center, which plays a crucial role in the commune and surrounding areas.
"Access to quality health services in the most remote areas is at the heart of our foundation's major concerns. And we are convinced that a healthy population constitutes the undeniable foundation of all sustainable development. Our commitment to a healthier Senegal is reflected in concrete actions carried out throughout the national territory. This is why, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, the Dakar Port Foundation has carried out several projects, namely the granting of specialty scholarships for the training of around ten doctors," according to Waly Diouf Bodian.
