Crise de l'eau à l'hôpital Amath Dansokho de Kédougou : le directeur tire la sonnette d'alarme
The Amath Dansokho Regional Hospital in Kédougou is experiencing a major water supply crisis. This situation, which has persisted for several weeks, has provoked a protest from the local branch of the Autonomous Union of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dentists of Senegal (SAMES).
When questioned about this emergency, the director of the establishment wanted to provide details on the causes of the blockage.
When contacted by Seneweb, the director readily acknowledged the seriousness of the situation: "Indeed, the water problem at the hospital is real and worrying. We are facing a severe supply deficit," he admitted.
According to the explanations provided, the hospital is currently supplied by two boreholes whose capacity has become insufficient. "The hospital's activities have increased significantly. Staff numbers have grown, patient numbers have increased, and naturally, water needs have followed this trend," the director explained.
This increased demand is compounded by a significant geological constraint. The shallow water table in the area limits the productivity of existing facilities. Consequently, water production only covers 16 hours a day, leaving healthcare services completely without water for the remaining 8 hours.
To address the most urgent needs, management contacted Sen'Eau and the administrative authorities. Currently, the water distribution company regularly deploys two tanker trucks to compensate for the shortage. However, this solution remains precarious. The real obstacle lies in the hospital's lack of connection to Sen'Eau's urban water network, located approximately five kilometers away.
"Such a network expansion requires massive financial investments. Only the central level can truly support us in a project of this scale," the director emphasizes.
As a long-term solution, management and the Board of Directors are considering drilling a third well. Technical and financial partners have already begun to express interest in supporting this initiative.
In the meantime, the director is appealing for understanding from patients and medical staff, while reaffirming his commitment to restoring acceptable hygiene and care conditions. This crisis highlights the structural challenges of access to basic services in healthcare facilities in outlying regions.
