Épidémies : La Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift atteint 324 cas, le Mpox reste ous surveillance

The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene published, on October 26, 2025, an update on the development of the Rift Valley Fever (RVF) and Mpox (monkeypox) epidemics, calling on the population to be extra vigilant.

Rift Valley Fever (RVF): The epidemic continues to progress

According to the report as of October 25, 2025, Senegal recorded 13 new positive cases of RVF, but no new deaths were reported.

Since the start of the epidemic, the country now has a total of 324 confirmed cases, including 28 deaths and 244 recoveries.

The disease, which continues to spread, primarily affects the north of the country. The Saint-Louis region remains the most affected, with 265 cases. The most affected districts are:

Saint-Louis: 71 cases

Richard-Toll: 132 cases

Podor: 26 cases

Dagana: 28 cases

Other regions are also affected: Louga (17 cases), Matam (18 cases), Kaolack (7 cases) and Fatick (9 cases). The regions of Dakar and Thiès recorded, respectively, 5 cases and 2 cases. The cases in Thiès are distributed between the district of Thiès (1 case) and Thiès Ville (1 case). The cases initially attributed to Louga are now counted in the districts of Dagana (1 case) and Sakal (1 case).

Mpox: Situation stagnates, surveillance continues

Regarding the Mpox epidemic (formerly monkeypox), the situation does not indicate any immediate further worsening.

Since the first case was confirmed on August 22, 2025, the country has maintained a record of 7 confirmed cases and 2 probable cases, all located in the Dakar region. Eight (8) people have already recovered and no deaths have been reported.

However, the Ministry indicates that 30 contact persons are currently being monitored by health services, stressing the need to maintain vigilance.

The Ministry of Health calls on the population to be vigilant, to scrupulously respect preventive measures and to actively collaborate with health workers and community relays to contain these epidemics.
