Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift : 7 décès déplorés à Saint-Louis
The Rift Valley fever epidemic is taking a worrying turn in the Saint-Louis region, where 21 cases have been confirmed, including seven deaths. The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Ibrahima Sy, visited the region on Sunday to discuss the situation with local and health authorities.
"This is a critical case, almost all districts are affected," he warned, calling for strong community mobilization. Transmitted by mosquitoes and contact with infected animals, the disease is progressing rapidly.
Authorities have launched spraying operations, distributed mosquito nets and increased hospital care, despite the absence of a specialized center in Saint-Louis.
A call for blood donations has also been launched in response to serious cases. Community surveillance and inter-ministerial cooperation are considered essential to curb the spread.
