Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift : Kaffrine en alerte
While Rift Valley fever has been confirmed in northern Senegal, health and veterinary authorities in the Kaffrine region are reassuring. To date, no suspected or confirmed cases have been recorded in this central area of the country.
"At the moment, there are no suspected cases, let alone confirmed cases, of Rift Valley fever in the Kaffrine region," assured the regional director of Health, Doctor Mbaye Thiam, questioned by our colleagues at APS.
He also assures that all necessary measures have been taken to deal with any eventuality.
In the livestock sector, a vast awareness campaign is underway. "Every morning, with departmental teams, we visit slaughterhouses to raise awareness, monitor, and inspect animals," explained Moustapha Dione, Regional Director of Livestock and Animal Production.
Breeders also claim to be following official recommendations. Samba Sow, president of the Missirah Wadène fairgrounds, told our colleagues that preventive measures have been implemented locally, based on instructions from the relevant authorities.
Rift Valley fever, a viral disease transmitted primarily by mosquitoes and affecting both humans and animals, is causing increased vigilance across the country.
In Kaffrine, authorities are relying on surveillance, awareness raising and prevention to avoid any spread.
