Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift : Un décès et trois cas confirmés à Linguère
Rift Valley Fever (RVF) has emerged in the Linguère department. Health authorities have confirmed three cases of the disease, including one death.
According to Dr. Ramatoulaye Diop, chief physician of the Linguère health district, of the three confirmed cases, two people have recovered, while one person has succumbed to the infection.
Response plan and awareness raising
Faced with the spread of the pandemic in the department, medical authorities quickly implemented a response plan. This plan prioritizes public awareness. Information campaigns are actively conducted in all public places, including: weekly markets; fairgrounds.
Targeting breeders to break the chain of transmission
Particular emphasis is placed on raising awareness among livestock farmers. Rift Valley Fever is a zoonotic disease that primarily affects livestock and domestic animals.
Transmission to humans occurs through contact with infected animals or their contaminated products (meat, milk), or through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Awareness-raising aims to break this chain of transmission by informing farmers of the precautions to take to protect both animals and humans.
