Lutte contre la fièvre de la vallée du Rift à Saint-Louis : Plus de 3727 têtes de bétails vaccinées

The fight against Rift Valley fever is accelerating in the Saint-Louis region, which has recorded 87 cases, including 10 deaths. In addition to intensifying medical care for patients, a large-scale livestock vaccination campaign is underway. To date, 3,727 heads of sheep, goats, and cattle have already received doses of the vaccine, reports Dr. Mouhamed Moustapha Sarr, Regional Director of Livestock and Animal Production.

In an interview with APS, the veterinarian said: "Regarding the livestock sector, we have taken measures relating to the vaccination of animals. And at the moment, we have vaccinated 3,727 heads, namely sheep, goats and cattle."

Dr. Sarr revealed that his staff also conducted antiparasitic treatment on the animals. An awareness campaign is being conducted to increase public awareness of the disease and help people take preventative measures. "After contact with an animal, you must wash your hands and wear a mask and gloves," he recommends.

Regular monitoring of animal products, particularly meat, is carried out. According to the regional livestock and animal production authority, this is a "sovereign mission, especially during this period when clandestine slaughtering is sometimes noted." "These are risks that can spread the disease," he emphasizes.
