Mpox au Sénégal : la vérité sur les cas contacts
Health authorities announced the first case of Mpox in Senegal last Saturday. He is a 28-year-old man. Although he contracted the most severe form of the disease, patient zero's condition is improving, according to Professor Moussa Seydi, head of the infectious and tropical diseases department at Fann Hospital, who treated him and his teams. "He will be fully recovered in a few days, barring any last-minute complications. He no longer has a fever, and his skin lesions are healing," the doctor said.
Now it remains to monitor the contact cases. There are not 25, as previously reported, but 29 "after a thorough investigation," according to Professor Seydi. "An action plan has been developed by the MSAS [Ministry of Health and Social Action] to prevent the spread of the disease in the country. […] It is generally the implementation and compliance with prevention and control measures, with an emphasis on contact tracing in our case. Among these measures, it is necessary, among other things: to avoid being in close contact with the patient, without protective equipment. Close contact is not limited to physical contact, but also concerns remaining less than 2 meters in front of a patient for 3 hours, especially in a confined or poorly ventilated environment."
That's not all. Professor Seydi recommends "washing hands, regularly disinfecting surfaces that may be contaminated, ventilating hospital rooms, especially if there are no air renewal systems like those in negative pressure rooms, and vaccinating at-risk individuals if necessary."
