Point de situation épidémiologique sur la Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift (FVR) et la Mpox au Sénégal
The Ministry of Health and Social Action is taking stock of the Rift Valley Fever (RVF) and Mpox epidemics, calling on the population to be more vigilant and to respect preventive measures.
Rift Valley Fever (RVF): A Rising Case Count
As of December 14, 2025, the epidemiological situation of Rift Valley Fever has worsened with the registration of 6 new positive cases. Fortunately, no new deaths have been reported.
Since the start of the epidemic, Senegal has recorded a total of 554 confirmed cases, including 31 deaths and 520 recoveries. The disease continues to spread in several regions of the country.
The Saint-Louis region remains the most affected with 371 cases distributed mainly between the Health Districts (DS) of Richard-Toll (160), Podor (75), Saint-Louis (84) and Dagana (38), but also Pété (14), Dagana (38), and Dagana (38), as well as the DS of Saint-Louis (84), Podor (75), Dagana (38), Richard-Toll (160) and Pété (14).
Fatick follows with 39 cases (Diofior Health District: 15, Passy Health District: 4, Foundiougne Health District: 4, Diakhao Health District: 2, Niakhar Health District: 4, Sokone Health District: 3, Fatick Health District: 7). Matam has 45 cases (Thilogne Health District: 18, Ranérou Health District: 10, Matam Health District: 13, Kanel Health District: 4). Kaolack has 36 cases (Kaolack Health District: 16, Ndoffane Health District: 10, Nioro Health District: 5, Guinguinéo Health District: 5).
Other regions are also reporting cases:
Louga: 22 cases (DS Linguère: 9, DS Keur Momar Sarr: 6, DS Sakal: 3, DS Dahra: 3, DS Coki: 1).
Dakar: 18 cases (DS Sangalkam: 9, DS Keur Massar: 4, DS Guédiawaye: 3, DS Dakar centre: 2).
Tambacounda: 10 cases (DS Kidira: 7, DS Goudiry: 2, DS Bakel: 1).
Thiès: 5 cases (DS Thiès: 2, DS Pout: 1, DS Joal: 1, DS Mbour: 1).
Kolda: 4 cases (DS Vélingara: 3, DS Kolda: 1).
Kédougou: 2 cases (DS Kédougou: 1, DS Salémata: 1).
Kaffrine: 2 cases (DS Birkelane: 2).
Mpox: Epidemic Under Control
Regarding Mpox, the epidemic appears to be under control. Since the first case was confirmed on August 22, 2025, 9 confirmed and 2 probable cases have been recorded. The majority of cases, 10 in total, were located in the Dakar region, and one case was recorded in the Ziguinchor region.
Currently, all patients are declared recovered and no deaths have been reported. Furthermore, all contacts who were monitored have now been released from the surveillance period.
Call for Vigilance
The Ministry reiterates its appeal to the public to remain vigilant. It is imperative to strictly adhere to preventive measures and actively collaborate with health workers and community health workers to effectively contain these two epidemics within the country.
