The Association of Journalists in Health, Population and Development (AJSPD), in partnership with the Gates Foundation, has released the list of nominees for the 2025 edition of the "AJSPD Prize" intended to reward the best journalistic productions on malnutrition.

Among the finalists is Awa Faye, deputy editor-in-chief of Seneweb, nominated in the Online Press category. This award aims to encourage and recognize journalists who contribute to a better understanding of the issues related to malnutrition and to increased mobilization against this scourge in Senegal and the sub-region.

Special distinctions

Honorary awards will also be given to two emblematic figures of health journalism: the late El Hadji Bachir Sow, former President of the AJSPD and journalist at the daily newspaper Le Soleil , and the late Alassane Cissé, former President of the AJSPD and journalist at RTS.

This tribute is intended to recognize their commitment, leadership, and contribution to the promotion of specialized journalism.

Through this initiative, the AJSPD and the Gates Foundation reaffirm the importance of the role of the media in raising awareness, educating and mobilizing society around nutrition issues.

Malnutrition remains a major challenge in Senegal, marked in particular by a low minimum acceptable food intake among children (9%), an exclusive breastfeeding rate of 41% during the first five months, persistent disparities in rural areas and limited access to nutritious food, aggravated by poverty, food insecurity and gender inequalities.

The AJSPD Prize is part of an initiative to encourage journalists to delve deeper into nutritional issues. The AJSPD emphasizes that this work contributes to informing public opinion, monitoring public policy, and promoting healthy behaviors.
