The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has provided an update on the epidemiological situation, reporting a total of 56 cases of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) since its outbreak, including eight deaths. The vast majority of cases (54) are concentrated in the Saint-Louis region (notably Saint-Louis and Richard-Toll). The two remaining cases concern the Matam region (Thilogne district) and the Louga region (Linguere district).
New suspected cases detected in Louga
In Linguère, the patient identified is a teenager in his fifteenth year, admitted to the Amadou Magatte Lô Hospital. According to Dr. Ramatoulaye Diop, head physician of the health district, interviewed by Le Soleil, his condition is considered stable.
However, the national daily's interlocutor reported the detection of two new suspected cases in the same locality, specifying that investigations are underway to detect possible contacts.
At the same time, the specialist is leading an awareness campaign, calling on the population to respect hygiene measures and to use impregnated mosquito nets, the main means of protection against mosquitoes, which carry the virus.
