Santé : And Gueusseum annonce une « radicalisation » et une grève de 96 heures en février
The And Gueusseum union coalition, part of the Alliance of Autonomous Health Unions (ASAS), is escalating its stance against the government. In its fifth strike notice, published on January 25, 2026, the movement announced it was entering what it calls a "moment of radicalization," marking a new stage in its standoff with the authorities. Despite the administrative truce announced by the SATSUS (the Supreme Health Service), And Gueusseum is pleased with the success of the 72-hour strike held from January 21 to 23. According to the leadership's assessment, participation rates reached "historic" levels, ranging between 80 and 90% of workers nationwide.
The National Directorate commended the Thiès regional union for the success of the national march on January 14th, during which a manifesto addressed to the President of the Republic was presented to the Governor. While some dysfunctions were noted in certain structures in Dakar and the Dioffior district, the coalition believes the strike significantly disrupted the system, demonstrating the union's strength. And Gueusseum, however, points out that, in this context of national celebration linked to the performance of the Lions of Senegal, millions of citizens were deprived of healthcare, accumulating 268 hours without adequate health services since the start of the movement.
On the political and social front, the union strongly criticizes the official narrative portraying the country as "over-indebted and in ruins," which it considers contradictory to the lavish lifestyle of the government and parliament. It also calls on the authorities to address the fate of the 120 hectares of land in Daga-Kholpa, allocated by decree in 2021 to victims of the SUTSAS-Namora program, but which have yet to be made available. Furthermore, And Gueusseum expresses its solidarity with the SAMES-SUTSAS-ARP Joint Struggle, while warning against any attempt to sanction or requisition striking workers, particularly in Ziguinchor.
Faced with what it calls the government's delaying tactics, the coalition has announced a particularly forceful sixth action plan. This program will begin with a national tour and regional general assemblies from January 28 to February 9, 2026. It will be followed by a 96-hour strike, scheduled from February 10 to 13, 2026, with emergency services maintained but no minimum service provided. An evaluation will be conducted on February 14, before a total boycott of health programs, coordination meetings, and supervisory activities begins from February 28 to May 28, 2026.
