Santé communautaire : L’université de Thiès déploie des spécialistes à Ngoundiane
The Iba Der Thiam University of Thiès (UIDT) organized 48 hours of free medical services for the local population this past weekend in Ngoundiane. This initiative, launched two days after Tabaski (Eid al-Adha), allowed several healthcare professionals to offer consultations and distribute free medication to patients.
According to the rector of UIDT, Professor Mamadou Babacar Ndiaye, this initiative reflects the university's commitment to using its expertise to serve the community. He indicated that the program will be gradually extended to other municipalities in the Thiès region and could encompass other areas of university expertise, including agriculture, livestock farming, commerce, and artificial intelligence.
The mobilized healthcare professionals also raised awareness among the population about the importance of preventive consultations in order to detect certain silent diseases in a timely manner.
The chief medical officer of the Khombole health district, Dr. Matar Ndiaye, praised this initiative, which enabled the diagnosis of several illnesses in patients who came for consultations. He specified that the identified cases are currently receiving treatment. He also announced that 2,000 residents of the Ngoundiane commune will soon benefit from Universal Health Coverage (CMU).
The mayor of Ngoundiane, Mbaye Dione, stressed that the objective of these medical days is to allow residents to access free consultations and first aid, with a target of 300 beneficiaries during this operation.
