Santé : Le secteur paralysé par 48 heures de grève les 23 et 24 décembre
The social climate is deteriorating in Senegal's healthcare system. The inter-union group And Gueusseum–SATSUS has officially announced that it will maintain its strike call for Tuesday, December 23rd and Wednesday, December 24th, 2025. This action, which comes during the holiday season, marks a new stage in the standoff between healthcare workers and the government.
In its "Strike Communiqué No. 4", the inter-union group vehemently denounces what it calls "the negligence of the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene" and criticizes the lack of concrete actions to materialize the commitments made by the State.
While the Joint Struggles acknowledge the good intentions of the Minister of Public Service, it protests against the administrative blockage of the decree integrating Senior Health Technicians into the A2 hierarchy. Although adopted by the technical committee nearly ten months ago, the text is still awaiting the signature of the President of the Republic.
The inter-union group also points to a "complete status quo" on financial matters and career progression. Discontent is all the more acute given the conspicuous absence of the Ministers of Health and Finance from the crucial meeting on December 19th, an attitude perceived as a profound "contempt for workers."
The union members point out that they have made numerous gestures of goodwill in recent months, notably by releasing health data withheld for three years and suspending their actions during the rainy season out of national solidarity. Today, they believe that striking has become "the only alternative" in the face of the government's delaying tactics.
The movement promises to respect emergency services, but warns that no minimum service will be provided. The demands also include resolving tensions within the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP), where the "Softcare" issue has pitted the inspection department against the general management, threatening the institution's credibility.
By rejecting the "economic and social stability pact" proposed by the authorities, the Joint Union of Struggles and Gueusseum–SATSUS warns that the government will bear full responsibility for the disruptions and healthcare deprivations suffered by the population. The inter-union group directly challenges the Minister of Health regarding his inaction, as the healthcare system prepares to experience two days of total paralysis.
