Santé publique : Le Sénégal réactualise son plan stratégique national 2026-2029 à Kaolack
The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, in partnership with the NGO AMREF, organized a workshop to update the National Strategic Plan for Health Promotion (PNSPS) for the period 2026-2029. This five-day workshop brought together key stakeholders in the health system as well as technical and financial partners. It marks a decisive step in the implementation of the new public policy framework in this area.
The main objective is to develop a robust strategic document for the next three years. Cheikh Sidaty Djimbira, Director of the National Service for Education and Health and Social Information (SNEISS), emphasized the importance of this approach: “This involves developing a new national strategic plan for health promotion for three years. The first phase, which is the updating of the plan, was developed in 2018 with the support of the WHO and USAID in a multisectoral approach, in accordance with an African resolution adopted by the Ministers of Health at the 62nd session of the African Regional Committee held in November 2013 in Uganda.”
However, the director recalled the challenges encountered previously: “We are noting difficulties in mobilizing resources with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has negatively impacted the achievement of the set objectives. There is a second phase dedicated to the finalization and technical validation of the strategic document, then a third and final phase dedicated to institutional validation and official sharing by the authority.”
This progressive approach guarantees the scientific quality, strategic coherence and institutional ownership of the final document.
This update phase is fully aligned with the "Senegal 2050" National Transformation Agenda, the plan being based on the Ministry's sectoral policy letter. "The health approach in all policies and guidelines of the national health and social development plan reflects the government's commitment to sustainably strengthening human capital, a fundamental lever for a sovereign, just, and prosperous Senegal," added Mr. Djimbira.
According to the document's authors, population health does not depend solely on the quality of healthcare facilities. It is fundamentally influenced by the social determinants of health, including education levels, housing conditions, and access to clean water, among others.
