Situation épidémiologique : Le point sur la fièvre de la vallée du Rift et le Mpox

Senegal has been facing two epidemics for the past few months, which are mobilizing health authorities and community relays: Rift Valley fever (RVF) and Mpox.

As of December 3, 2025, the FVR recorded six new positive cases with no additional deaths. Since the start of the epidemic, the country has recorded a total of 536 confirmed cases, including 31 deaths and 495 recoveries. The Saint-Louis region remains the most affected, with 365 cases, followed by Fatick (38 cases), Matam (41 cases), Kaolack (31 cases), and Dakar (17 cases).

Other regions such as Louga, Tambacounda, Thiès, Kédougou, Kaffrine and Kolda, show more modest figures, but confirm the geographical spread of the disease.

Several health districts, including Richard-Toll, Podor, Dagana, Kidira, Thilogne, Ranérou and Vélingara, are particularly affected, illustrating the spread of the epidemic in the country.

Regarding Mpox, the epidemiological situation appears to be more contained. Since the confirmation of the first case on August 22, 2025, nine confirmed cases and two probable cases have been identified. Ten of these are located in the Dakar region and only one in Ziguinchor.

All patients have now recovered; no deaths have been recorded and five contact persons remain under surveillance.

The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene calls on the population to maintain heightened vigilance, to scrupulously respect prevention measures and to actively collaborate with health workers and community relays.
