The General Directorate of Social Action (DGAS) has mobilized to support people living with disabilities. Boucar Diouf, Director of Social Action, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Family, Social Action, and Solidarity, Maïmouna Dièye, emphasized that this initiative is part of the project to improve access for people with disabilities to technical aids and functional rehabilitation services (2024-2026). Funded to the tune of 1.123 billion CFA francs by the Senegalese government, this project "illustrates the shared desire to strengthen inclusion and guarantee every citizen an equal opportunity for development," said Boucar Diouf.

For the year 2025, the DGAS plans to acquire and distribute 2,264 assistive products and technologies, worth 330 million CFA francs. This equipment takes into account the diversity of impairments: 75 hearing aids for hearing impairments, 85 corrective glasses for visual impairments, 367 wheelchairs (ordinary, electric and motorized tricycles), 71 laryngophones for voice impairments, 300 walking sticks, 200 rollators, 650 walking sticks, 100 white canes, and 529 orthopedic components, in partnership with the National Center for Orthopedic Devices.

The selection of beneficiaries is based on applications reviewed with social services, hospitals, and healthcare professionals. Distributions will be coordinated by the regional multisectoral disability management committees, already operational in several localities. According to Boucar Diouf, the inclusion of this project in the state budget reflects the inclusive commitment of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. This approach is aligned with the National Transformation Agenda 2025-2029, particularly its second axis devoted to human capital and social equity. "This is a strategic and salutary choice, which is in line with the Head of State's 2050 vision and the new Sectoral Policy Letter for Health and Social Action," he insisted.

The Director of Social Action thanked the institutional and social partners who supported the project. He also praised the commitment of the DGAS teams in organizing this ceremony.
