Tivaouane : A Ndémène, une seule sage-femme pour neuf villages

The people of Ndémène, a locality in the commune of Niakhène (department of Tivaouane), are asking the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene for the urgent assignment of a head nurse (ICP) to their health post, which was built in 2012 with community funds but is still without state staff.

Despite the presence of an ambulance, accommodation for medical staff and an operational reception area, the structure, which is an essential link for more than nine surrounding villages, is functioning as best it can, despite the presence of a midwife recruited by the health development committee (CDS), who combines several functions.

Sokhna Oumy Niang describes a context marked by a glaring lack of resources and an excessive workload, in front of populations who reiterated the need to strengthen health and educational infrastructure to improve living conditions at the local level.

The residents of Ndémène are denouncing an untenable situation, arguing that in case of emergency, they have to travel up to 9 km to reach Niakhène or Thilmakha. They are urgently appealing to the Ministry of Health for the rapid staffing of the medical post with a qualified nurse.
