A US study published in early 2025 reveals that people born between 1980 and 2010 tend to go gray earlier and earlier, starting in their twenties. This phenomenon is explained by a deficiency in minerals like magnesium or copper, which are naturally present in hair. Here are the foods that can help delay their appearance.

1 - Egg yolk

To limit the premature appearance of gray hair, it is advisable to opt for foods rich in vitamin B5. Also known as pantothenic acid, this nutrient is mainly present in foods of animal origin. It is found in significant quantities in egg yolks, milk, and even chicken.

2 - Whole grains

Another food to regularly include in your diet: whole grains (whole wheat, whole oats, brown rice, quinoa, etc.). And for good reason, they contain vitamin B1, or thiamine. However, a thiamine deficiency can promote the premature appearance of gray hair.

3 - Offal

To delay this phenomenon, you can also consider including offal (beef, veal, lamb) in your diet. Liver, tripe, and kidneys are sources of vitamin B12. This slows down cellular aging and preserves color by stimulating the production of melanin, which is the source of hair's natural pigmentation.

For example, cooked calf's liver contains 20.1 mg of copper per 100g. This is an essential source to limit copper deficiency, which results in premature graying of the hair.

4 - Seafood

But liver isn't the only food rich in copper. Many dermatologists strongly recommend seafood, the main source of this element. To do this, you can vary your diet by eating oysters (1.5 mg per 100g), octopus, or even crab. If these aren't your thing, oily fish, such as sardines, are also good alternatives.

5 - THE LAWYER

Avocados are rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and copper, a trace mineral known to promote hair pigmentation. All of these nutrients make a perfect cocktail for slowing the onset of gray hair. They're also found in shrimp, crab, oysters, walnuts, and almonds.
