«10 millions F CFA à un magistrat» : les révélations de Cheikh Guèye qui enfoncent le marabout Hady Sy
Businessman Cheikh Guèye and marabout Hady Sy are expected to be brought before the prosecutor at the Pikine/Guédiawaye court on Monday. They were taken into custody at the Keur Massar gendarmerie's research brigade on charges of criminal conspiracy and attempted bribery of a magistrate.
Their crime, according to the prosecution: offering the judge of the second chamber of said court 10 million CFA francs in the hope of seeing Guèye get rid of the electronic bracelet imposed on him following his indictment in the case of the lands of the Ministry of Justice.
According to Les Échos, Cheikh Guèye denied the charges when questioned by investigators. "He explained to the police that he wanted to take legal steps to obtain authorization to remove the electronic bracelet and be able to travel [abroad] without any problems. That's when the marabout Hady Sy came in, offering to help him with this," the newspaper continued. "A few days later," he told investigators, "his marabout friend assured him that he had spoken to the judge [of the second chamber] and that the judge had no objection to allowing him to make his business trip."
Continuing his story, Cheikh Guèye explains that he wanted to get to the bottom of things: accompanied by Hady Sy, he went to the Pikine/Guédiawaye courthouse to see the judge. The judge reminded him that he had the right to submit his request through his lawyer.
“After discussions,” Les Échos recounts, citing its sources, “Cheikh Guèye told investigators that the marabout Hady Sy gave an envelope containing 10 million CFA francs to the magistrate as a gift. Unfortunately, he alerted the public prosecutor, Saliou Dicko, who sent a warrant to the investigation unit requesting their arrest. This is how Cheikh Guèye and the marabout Hady Sy were summoned and taken into custody for conspiracy and attempted bribery.”
