14 trafiquants arrêtés à Golf-Sud: Un réseau de distribution à ciel ouvert démantelé par la BRS de Dakar

A major anti-drug operation conducted last Wednesday around 6 p.m. by the Dakar Regional Narcotics Brigade (BRS) resulted in the arrest of fourteen individuals. This operation led to the seizure of nearly one kilogram of Indian hemp and 13 ecstasy tablets.

These arrests follow a series of denunciations and complaints from the people of Golf Sud. Residents reported the presence of a vast drug trafficking network operating in the open air, run by local youths whose illicit activities had ultimately created a climate of permanent insecurity in the area.

In response to these repeated alerts, specialist forces launched a reconnaissance and cross-checking mission, followed by a surveillance and tailing operation that lasted several days. This preparatory phase enabled the identification of several dealers in the midst of drug packaging and distribution.

Elements of the Dakar BRS of the OCRTIS were deployed to the scene to completely dismantle the network. Caught in the act of criminal activity, the fourteen suspects were quickly apprehended. They are young people aged 21 to 26, working in various professions: carters, mechanics, carpenters, motorcycle taxi drivers, painters, bakers, and store managers, according to Seneweb sources.

Seizures reveal the scale of the trafficking

The search of the suspects and the immediate surroundings led to the seizure of a significant arsenal of traffickers consisting of 8 Indian hemp junk, 61 Indian hemp cones, 17 opened joints, 13 ecstasy tablets

Various equipment and objects including 3 bladed weapons, packaging material, 14 mobile phones (iPhone, Samsung, Tecno and simple phones), 5 scooter-type motorcycles, 44,000 CFA francs in cash were seized.

Legal proceedings in progress

Taken to the BRS headquarters, the fourteen suspects were placed in police custody after being notified of their right to be assisted by counsel of their choosing. All seizures—drugs, vehicles, telephones, and money—were provisionally consigned to the service to be sealed for forensic examination.

The diversity of professions practiced by the suspects illustrates the extent to which drug trafficking penetrates the local social fabric, affecting young people from different sectors of economic activity.
