3 millions F CFA en faux billets saisis à Thiès: 2 trafiquants arrêtés par la police
On September 28, 2025, elements of the 3rd Company of the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI) dismantled a counterfeit money network in Nguinth. Two men were arrested in possession of three million CFA francs in counterfeit banknotes.
A muscular intervention by the GMI
It was Police Lieutenant B. Niang, accompanied by his driver, who led the operation which led to the arrest of A.Siwane and MLDiop, near a home located in Nguinth.
At the time of their arrest, the two suspects were in possession of three million (3,000,000) CFA francs in counterfeit notes. They were immediately taken to the Thiès central police station for investigation.
Unequivocal confessions
Under brief interrogation, the two individuals admitted the charges against them. Their statements helped reconstruct the scenario of a transaction gone wrong.
According to their confessions, A. Siwane had brought the sum of three million CFA francs in counterfeit notes with the aim of exchanging them for authentic notes estimated at one million nine hundred and fifty thousand (1,950,000) CFA francs, which MLDiop was to provide.
A transaction that turns into a settling of scores
However, the transaction never took place. ML Diop refused to proceed with the exchange, citing an explosive reason: he claimed to have been the victim of a scam perpetrated in Mbour by the same A. Siwane.
According to his accusations, the latter had already defrauded him of an amount of two million eight hundred thousand (2,800,000) CFA francs in authentic notes, in exchange for six million (6,000,000) CFA francs in counterfeit currency according to Seneweb sources.
An altercation and accomplices on the run
Faced with this refusal, a violent altercation broke out between the two men, preventing the transaction from going through. It was precisely this moment of tension that attracted the attention of the police and led to their intervention.
It should be noted that A. Siwane was not alone during this attempted exchange. He was accompanied by two other individuals who fled during the police intervention. Their identification and search are currently among the focuses of the investigation.
Legal proceedings in progress
Following these events, an investigation was officially opened after notification was given to the Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Thiès.
The two accused, A.Siwane and MLDiop, were taken into custody for possession and circulation of counterfeit currency. The sum of three million (3,000,000) CFA francs in counterfeit notes was entered as evidence.
