365 jours de détention de Farba Ngom : Vendredi de frustrations à Agnam
This Friday, a religious gathering brought together many relatives and supporters of the mayor of Agnams, Farba Ngom, for a ceremony of prayers and recitations from the Quran. The event, held in the village of Ouro Ciré, was marked by a large turnout of religious leaders and worshippers from several localities in Fouta.
For hours, participants recited Quranic verses and implored divine grace in support of Farba Ngom, who has been held in pretrial detention for a year.
Indeed, this February 27, 2026 marks 365 days since the deputy-mayor of Agnams was placed under arrest warrant and imprisoned following a report established by the Centif.
The gathering, organized by the Popular Resistance Cell and bringing together several political leaders, took on a particular significance. The messages from the religious leaders present emphasized the promotion of peace and social unity, while also supporting efforts to secure the release of Farba Ngom.
Furthermore, frustrations and concerns have been expressed regarding the slowness of the judicial process. Many supporters have voiced their dissatisfaction, believing that this case is progressing much more slowly compared to others that have been resolved more quickly.
A general feeling of injustice thus seems to have taken hold among the participants who are dismayed by a new case "related to the possession of telephones", while the first one "is not yet cleared".
Farba Ngom, initially prosecuted for embezzlement of public funds and money laundering involving the sum of 125 billion CFA francs, is again targeted for other charges for which his parliamentary immunity was lifted on February 16 at the National Assembly.
