A. Mbaye appeared before the Dakar criminal court for the murder of his friend A. Diouf. According to the court report in the daily newspaper Le Soleil, the events took place on the night of May 15-16, 2021. A trivial argument over a cell phone turned into a massacre.
That night, around 3 a.m., the same source details, the two men, both under the influence of alcohol, argued when the victim insisted on selling a coded phone to the accused. The tension escalated, and A. Mbaye acted on his impulse, stabbing his companion ten times. An eyewitness described a particularly shocking scene: after receiving the first blow to the abdomen, A. Diouf tried to flee behind a utility pole, but his attacker caught him and finished him off.
The final blow, delivered to the back, was so deep that it punctured the victim's lung. In court, A. Mbaye maintained that he was no longer "in control of his actions" due to intoxication. His lawyer, Babacar Mbaye, argued for the charge to be reduced from murder to manslaughter, describing it as a fight without apparent cause between two inseparable friends.
The prosecutor disagrees. He has requested a 20-year prison sentence. The verdict is expected on May 12, the national daily concludes.
