Une tonne de tilapias récoltée dans une ferme : L’ANA réaffirme la nécessité d’une station piscicole à Kaffrine pour alimenter la région en alevins

In Kaffrine, Awa Kandé, head of the regional branch of the National Aquaculture Agency (ANA), is advocating for the establishment of a fish farm in the region. She believes this facility has become essential to meet the growing demand for fingerlings and support the expansion of local aquaculture.

This appeal was launched this Thursday, during a day of harvesting and selling fish organized at the Sékou Diatta fish farm, an initiative led by promoter Pape Saliou Ndiaye with the support of PROVAL-CV and ANA.

Addressing local authorities, technical services, dignitaries, and partners, Ms. Kandé reiterated that the lack of a fish farm still forces farmers in Kaffrine to travel long distances to obtain fingerlings. "A fish farm here would allow us to supply the entire region, save time, and reduce costs for producers," she argued.

The day highlighted the potential of the Sékou Diatta farm, which successfully harvested one ton of Nile tilapia from six 100 m³ ponds, each containing 1,000 fingerlings. Spanning one hectare, this facility now serves as a local model of integrated aquaculture.

For its promoter, Pape Saliou Ndiaye, this farm represents much more than an economic project: it is a space of opportunity for the young people of Kaffrine. "We want to participate in their integration, but this requires increased support, particularly in terms of food and financing," he argued.

The head of the Regional Fisheries Service, Ameth Diarra Diop, welcomed the initiative, believing it contributes to boosting the local economy. He encouraged people to invest in aquaculture, a sector that can improve food security while generating sustainable income.
