B. Sène, 27, and his accomplice, A. Cissé, 39, are facing serious consequences for their audacious and cynical robbery. L'Observateur reports that they took advantage of a road accident to steal 1.44 million CFA francs.
The collision occurred last Tuesday, December 30th, on the RN1 highway, near the "Baba Guèye" gas station. While emergency services were organizing themselves after the crash, the two perpetrators seized the opportunity presented by the surrounding distress to commit a crime.
Indeed, the same source explains, taking advantage of the general inattention, Sène entered the vehicle of a Burkinabe national and stole a bag containing the loot. His accomplice, Cissé, was waiting a few meters away on a Jakarta motorcycle, engine running, for a quick getaway to Kaolack.
Thinking they had taken advantage of the anonymity of the crowd, the pair were nevertheless filmed. Investigators reviewed the surveillance camera footage which, despite the suspects' faces being concealed, allowed for their formal identification. The two men were arrested between January 3 and 4.
They confessed during their police custody: B. Sène squandered his share on gambling, while A. Cissé bought a motorcycle and spent the rest on personal needs. They are being prosecuted for theft committed by a group using a means of transportation.
