Affaire foncière : La défense du Dr Cheikh Kanté fustige une plainte « sans fondement » et brandit ses titres de propriété
Summoned to the Dakar Central Police Station on Friday, January 16, 2026, Dr. Cheikh Kanté responded to a complaint of "illegal occupation of land" and "forgery and use of forged documents." This legal action, initiated by a representative of the family of the late Mamadou Diagne, targets nine people. Speaking to the press, his lawyer, El Hadji Badara Ndiaye, dismissed the accusations, calling them "legal nonsense."
The defense maintains it fully cooperated with investigators by producing a complete file attesting to the legality of the acquisition. "This includes a notarized deed of sale drawn up in 1995 by Maître Moussa Mbacké, as well as a copy of the NICAD (National Register of Cadastral Documents), the cadastral plan, and a recent statement of real rights," the lawyer explained. According to him, these documents prove that the land belongs exclusively to Dr. Kanté and is free of any encumbrances.
A property acquired 30 years ago
The lawyer expressed astonishment that a property occupied and developed for nearly three decades could now be challenged. "After thirty years, you can't contest a property legally acquired before a notary," insisted Mr. Ndiaye. Regarding the opposing party's argument about the potential cancellation of a land title, he pointed out that such an administrative decision could not be attributed to a "bona fide purchaser" who had complied with all the rules in force at the time of the transaction in 1995.
Legal response to "defamation"
Beyond the land dispute, the defense denounces a smear campaign aimed at damaging the reputation of the former Minister of State and former Director General of the Autonomous Port of Dakar. Mr. Ndiaye emphasized that his client's assets were acquired well before he joined the government, thus refuting any confusion between his public duties and his private investments.
Faced with what he calls an attempted "media lynching," Dr. Cheikh Kanté's lawyer announced that legal action would be taken against those responsible for defamatory statements on social media and in certain media outlets. "We will do everything to ensure that the law prevails," he concluded, stating that he remained confident about the outcome of the investigation.
