Affaire présumée d’exploitation de mineurs : Le PIT-Sénégal appelle au respect de l’État de droit
Following reports of the alleged existence of a network involving the sexual exploitation of minors and "unnatural acts", the Party of Independence and Labour of Senegal (PIT-Senegal) expressed its deep concern over facts which it describes as "heinous crimes revealing a collective failure" if they were to be established by the justice system.
In a statement released this Wednesday, February 25 in Dakar, the PIT-Senegal emphasizes that "the exploitation of children, whoever the perpetrators may be, is not only a moral disgrace; it is a wound inflicted on the national conscience."
While calling for rigorous investigations, the party warns against the excesses observed in the public sphere. "When rumor supplants the law, when emotion replaces procedure, or when anger substitutes for justice, society embarks on a dangerous path," it warns, denouncing the dissemination of names and calls for violence.
The PIT-Senegal thus calls for "preferring legal action to unwarranted accusations" and demands that investigations be conducted "with composure, independence, and rigor," in accordance with fundamental rights. It also advocates for the establishment of a support and care system for victims.
Furthermore, the opposition party calls on the Senegalese state to reaffirm its commitment to the rule of law and the protection of the most vulnerable. This is based on the belief that "civilization is not measured by the intensity of outrage, but by the strength of institutions."
