Approvisionnement en moutons : Fatick se mobilise pour la Tabaski 2026
As Tabaski approaches, the Fatick region is organizing itself to ensure a sufficient supply of sheep. Between financial support and market organization, authorities and livestock stakeholders are mobilized to meet an estimated demand of 80,000 head.
"The sheep requirements in the Fatick region for the next Tabaski are estimated at 80,000 head," announced Mame Fatou Thioune, regional director of livestock and animal production, during a regional development committee meeting dedicated to preparations for Tabaski 2026.
"We are taking all the necessary steps to ensure a proper supply of sheep to the local market," she said.
In this context, a budget of 32 million FCFA has been allocated through the Livestock Support Fund to facilitate access to credit for professional livestock operators.
According to Ms. Thioune, "the supply of sheep for Tabaski was adequate last year." However, she lamented the low repayment rate of FONSTAB loans, with an estimated 80% of outstanding payments. "Solutions will be found to allow for the repayment of this debt," she assured.
Present at the meeting held at the governance, the regional president of the House of Livestock Breeders of Fatick, Bassirou Fall, announced the return of breeders and sellers to the new livestock market located at the exit of the city.
"The state has made significant efforts to build this livestock market for us. Admittedly, it is far from the city center, but that cannot justify a disengagement of the stakeholders," he explained, calling on the authorities to ban unregulated sales points in the streets.
