Journée des forces armées à Thiès : un environnement sécurisé pour les JOJ Dakar-2026 en ligne de mire

On Monday, November 10, 2025, in Thiès, Senegal's Armed Forces Day was celebrated. The theme was "The Armed Forces, Partners of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games," highlighting the military's role in the Games' success. This day also served as a moment of national recognition for the men and women in uniform, committed to the security and development of the country.

The official ceremony, held on the Promenade des Thiessois (formerly Place de France), was marked by the laying of a wreath and a military parade. An exhibition was then organized on the Place's esplanade, highlighting the missions, equipment, and civic actions of the Senegalese armed forces.

This year's theme focuses on the Armed Forces' contribution to the organization of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. Colonel El Hadji Oumar Faye, Commander of Military Zone Number 7, emphasized the importance of maintaining a secure environment during the 2026 Olympic Games. This is especially significant as it marks the first time in history that the Youth Olympic Games will be held in Africa—a historic moment, a symbol of pride and hope for an entire generation.

"Senegal, a land of peace and the cradle of Teranga (hospitality), has been chosen to host the world's youth and celebrate Olympism. Faced with the security and logistical challenges associated with an event of this magnitude, the Armed Forces, true to their mission, are supporting the National Committee for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (COJOJ) to ensure the smooth running of the competitions and create a vibrant atmosphere."

"Peaceful, festive and imbued with serenity," he said.

He stated that the goal is to guarantee a safe environment for athletes, spectators, citizens, critical infrastructure, and the Olympic torch relay throughout Senegal. Beyond security, Colonel El Hadji Oumar Faye emphasized that the partnership between the Armed Forces and the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Youth Games (COJOJ) also extends to logistics.

The military logistics chain, he continued, honed by decades of operational experience, is a significant asset for equipment storage, logistical transport, flow management, infrastructure installation, and medical support. "This expertise is also being used to train thousands of young volunteers made available to COJOJ for supervision and local security," El Hadj Omar Faye noted.

He emphasizes that Dakar 2026 is not simply a promotion of sport. It is an expression of the Army-Nation concept, a celebration of youth, and the promotion of citizenship and the Olympic values of friendship, respect, and solidarity. Furthermore, the Armed Forces embody the spirit of rigor, cohesion, discipline, and excellence. Through patriotic commitment and exemplary conduct, they stand alongside the nation and inspire its youth.

Dakar 2026 gives new impetus to the culture of hospitality, preservation of a healthy living environment and permanent maintenance of our villages and cities.

According to Colonel El Hadji Oumar Faye, the partnership between the Armed Forces and COJOJ is part of both the desire to guarantee safe and perfectly organized games, and above all to leave as a legacy: a responsible Senegalese youth, inspired by its Armed Forces, proud of Teranga and more anchored in safeguarding national cohesion and a clean and peaceful environment.
