Réception des 1050 bovins en provenance du Brésil : L'État se fixe un objectif de 150 000 têtes
The Group for the Genetic Improvement of Pastoral and Extensive Livestock Farming in Senegal (GEPES), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, officially received 1,050 high-yield cattle (Guzerat and Girolando breeds) imported from Brazil. This event took place on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the National Higher School of Agriculture in Thiès (ENSA).
This operation, 50% subsidized by the Senegalese government, marks an important step in the livestock modernization policy. These breeds, recognized for their high potential for meat and milk production, will significantly contribute to improved productivity, increased income for farmers, and the competitiveness of the sector.
This is the second operation of its kind, following an initial one that allowed the importation of 300 cattle. This new phase, involving 1,050 head of cattle, confirms the government's commitment to the development of modern and efficient livestock farming in Senegal.
"The acquisition of these animals is subsidized up to 50% by the State of Senegal. The government has disbursed
1,450,000,000 FCFA for the 2025 fiscal year to support livestock farmers. This is in line with the goal of food self-sufficiency," said Dr. Mabouba Diagne.
The minister hailed the record figure, noting that imported cattle had increased from 300 to 1,050. He specified that the government's objective is to reach 150,000 imported dairy cows as part of the modernization of the national livestock sector. He believes this strategic sector has the potential to generate over 100,000 jobs.
Dr. Mabouba Diagne emphasized the importance of proper animal care. He urged the beneficiaries to pay particular attention to their diet, an essential condition for achieving the expected levels of milk and meat production.
In conclusion, he stated that livestock farming is as important a sector as oil, highlighting its central role in Senegal's economic development.

...............06 novembre 2024................Au Sénégal, le ministère de l’Agriculture, de la Souveraineté alimentaire et de l’Élevage a signé une convention avec le Groupement pour l’amélioration génétique de l’élevage pastoral et extensif au Sénégal (GEPES), au profit des éleveurs de bovins. Dans un communiqué publié sur son site le mardi 5 novembre, ledit ministère indique que ce nouveau partenariat permettra d’importer directement en provenance du Brésil 1000 têtes de bovins de race guzera, à haut potentiel de viande, soit 700 géniteurs et 300 génisses.
