Ashock Tex : 255 millions FCFA détournés, un employé perd tout sur 1Xbet et tente de se suicider
Two Indian nationals, K. Chawla (22 years old) and S. Sonjuani (30 years old), were arrested last week by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) and remanded in custody. They are being prosecuted for breach of trust against their employer, Ashock Tex, a company specializing in the wholesale of fabrics.
According to Libération, which broke the story, their scheme relied on a perfectly organized internal conspiracy. Chawla, a sales agent, delivered the goods to clients but collected the payments for himself. Sonjuani, the warehouse manager, facilitated the removal of the fabrics and covered up these fraudulent operations. While the initially identified loss amounted to 180 million CFA francs, further investigations revealed a total of 255 million CFA francs embezzled, the newspaper estimates.
The same source notes that the arrest of one of the suspects was marked by a dramatic incident: the sales representative attempted suicide by ingesting detergent to escape prosecution. Taken to the hospital under police guard, he eventually recovered and confessed to the crime.
In front of investigators, the daily newspaper adds, he apologized to his employer, while explaining that all of the embezzled funds had been lost in bets on the online gaming platform 1Xbet.
