Attaques contre des étudiants étrangers à l'UCAD : 3 étudiants sénégalais arrêtés par la Sûreté urbaine
The Dakar Central Police Station's Urban Security Unit was informed on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, of assaults perpetrated by Senegalese students against their foreign peers at Cheikh Anta Diop University. These attacks were reportedly carried out in retaliation for the abuse suffered by Senegalese citizens residing abroad following the national team's victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Seneweb sources.
Two UCAD students, nicknamed "El Capo" and "Mbappé", allegedly led a group to attack their foreign classmates at the Faculty of Medicine.
No injuries were reported during these attacks. The foreign students were able to leave the premises thanks to the help of other students who intervened to protect them.
The two leaders of the group have been identified as belonging to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. They are A. Gaye Fall, alias "Mbappé", aged 23, from Richard-Toll and a third-year undergraduate student in the History department.
The second suspect is Mr. Dieng, alias "El Capo," aged 22, a second-year English student and also president of the Taif student association. The third individual arrested is I. Sarr, alias "Khalil," aged 25, from Mboro and a second-year History student.
The three suspects are known to be habitually armed on the university campus. They reportedly recently handled highly explosive pyrotechnic devices in the UCAD Fan Zone, causing widespread panic among viewers who had come to watch the Africa Cup of Nations matches. According to information gathered by investigators under the command of Commissioner Goudiaby, they were planning to specifically target foreign students on campus, according to Seneweb sources.
In accordance with instructions from the authorities, a raid was carried out at UCAD after the suspects were located by intelligence services. This operation led to their arrest and their being taken to the police station for initial questioning.
After receiving the opinion of Central Commissioner Mamadou Tendeng, head of the Dakar Regional Public Security Service, the three suspects were placed at the disposal of the Point-E district police station under the command of Commissioner Sow, who is now in charge of the investigation. The investigation is continuing to determine the exact circumstances of these attacks and to identify any possible accomplices.
