Ranch de Bandia : Le gouvernement dénonce des violations massives des droits des travailleurs !
Following a written question submitted by Member of Parliament Guy Marius Sagna, the Senegalese government issued an official response regarding the situation of workers at the Bandia Ranch. The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Public Service Reform confirmed, after a thorough inspection, the existence of serious legal violations.
A damning inspection report
An inspection carried out by the Thiès Regional Labor and Social Security Inspectorate on April 20, 2026, revealed several major irregularities. Ranch employees work an average of forty-eight hours per week, including overtime that is only partially paid and entirely absent from their pay slips. This method of calculating working hours was deemed non-compliant by the authorities, directly infringing upon the employees' rights.
Fundamental rights violated
The inspection also revealed that the majority of employees do not receive regular leave, with some having never taken annual leave despite years of service. Furthermore, many workers operate without formal contracts, and legally mandated benefits such as seniority bonuses are simply not being paid. The ministry also highlighted the practice of paying wages by vouchers, a practice strictly prohibited by current legislation.
Given the seriousness of these findings, a letter of observations was sent to the management of the Bandia Ranch, requiring them to rectify the situation within a specific timeframe. The Ministry assured them that strict monitoring would be carried out to ensure improved living conditions for the workers. Guy Marius Sagna, who commended the Regional Inspectorate's responsiveness, promised to remain vigilant regarding the effective implementation of these corrective measures.
