Bassin du Fleuve Gambie : la tendance générale des eaux reste à la baisse.
The Regional Directorate of Rural Development, through the Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, published its hydrological bulletin for October 6, 2025, this Monday. Overall, water levels observed on the Gambia River and its tributaries continue to decline, marking a gradual decline in the seasonal flood.
Tributaries in marked decline
At the Diaguiri station, located upstream from Mako, the water level recorded at 8 a.m. this morning was 4.03 meters, compared to 4.53 meters the day before. This represents a drop of 50 centimeters in 24 hours. At the same time last year, the level was 3.57 meters.
In Diahra Pont, the trend follows the same movement: 1.71 meters recorded against 1.98 meters the day before, a decrease of 27 centimeters.
The Niokolo Koba station is an exception, with a slight increase: 5.56 meters recorded this morning compared to 5.55 meters the day before, a minimal increase of one centimeter. However, this level remains well below the 7.92 meters recorded on the same date in 2024.
On the other hand, the Goumbayel and Sinthiou Malème stations did not reach the scale, a sign of low water flow.
The Gambia River continues to recede in Kédougou and Mako
In Kédougou, the river is showing a notable decline. The water level fell from 4.34 meters on October 5 to 3.98 meters this morning, a decrease of 36 centimeters. In 2024 at the same time, the river peaked at 5.88 meters, a level well above this year's. The alert level there remains set at 7 meters.
The same trend is observed at Mako, where the water level has dropped to 4.06 meters, compared to 4.33 meters the day before, a decline of 27 centimeters. At the same time last year, the level was 4.25 meters. The alert level at this station is 6 meters.
Contrasting variations in Simenti and Gouloumbou
In Simenti, the morning data have not yet been received, but the measurement on October 5 indicated 9.42 meters compared to 11 meters at the same time in 2024. The alert level there is 13 meters, which means that the river is still far from the critical threshold.
Downstream, at Gouloumbou, the river recorded a slight rise: 10.01 meters this morning compared to 9.98 meters the day before, a gain of 3 centimeters. Last year, at the same date, the water level reached 11.71 meters. The alert level there is set at 12 meters.
A gradual lull after the rainy season
The readings from early October confirm a general downward trend in water levels at most stations in the Gambia River basin. This situation marks the transition to the end of the rainy season and heralds a gradual return to normal hydrological levels.
The Tambacounda–Kédougou Water Resources Brigade continues daily monitoring of the river and its tributaries to prevent any risk of flooding or premature drying up of the watercourses.
