Bavures policières : Un collectif annonce la tenue d'une conférence de presse
In anticipation of the planned peaceful march on Saturday, February 21, 2026, a coalition of several civil society organizations announced an upcoming press conference in Dakar. This meeting with the media will focus on police misconduct and the situation of victims of recent police violence.
According to the organizers, this conference comes in a context marked by strong tensions, particularly at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), where student demonstrations recently degenerated and led to the death of Abdoulaye Ba, a 2nd year medical student, arousing strong emotion within the university community and public opinion.
Given the gravity of the events, which the group considers comparable to those that occurred between 2021 and 2024, it intends to challenge the authorities and demand clear answers. According to the group, the victims' families continue to demand justice and truth for all victims, the immediate and unconditional release of the arrested students, the opening of serious negotiations to find a solution to the university crisis, the implementation of independent, impartial, and transparent investigations, and structural and systemic reforms to prevent further violence.
