Ms. Ngom, a 28-year-old housekeeper, was brought before the prosecutor's office for theft following an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC). According to reports in the newspaper Libération, her employer, NKD Sow, for whom she had worked since last January in the Mbackiou Faye housing complex, regularly noticed the disappearance of various items without being able to identify the culprit.
On the eve of Tabaski, after granting her employee a few days off, the complainant again noticed the disappearance of an iPhone, clothes, two wigs and a gold jewelry set estimated at more than one million CFA francs.
The social media faux pas
It was during the party that the victim discovered the truth. While checking the WhatsApp statuses of the accused, she was shocked to see her proudly wearing one of her stolen items of clothing to celebrate the event.
Mr. Ngom initially tried to deny the allegations when questioned upon his return from leave, before confessing in the face of the evidence gathered by investigators, the newspaper reports. To explain her actions, she stated that she acted this way because she had no new clothes to wear for the party.
