Braquage violent à Diourbel : plus de 6,5 millions FCFA dérobés
In the early hours of Wednesday, May 13, around 4 a.m., an armed robbery caused panic in the Camp de Garde neighborhood of Diourbel. According to the newspaper L'Observateur, eight masked individuals traveling in a 4x4 vehicle forced their way into the home of I. Guèye after smashing down a door with a hammer.
The assailants specifically targeted S. Dionne, manager of a money transfer point. Quoted by the daily newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM), the victim recounted the attack: "They searched my shop but found nothing before coming into the house, shouting my name and demanding money." The robbers ultimately left with an estimated 6.5 to 7 million CFA francs, as well as two cell phones.
During the operation, the same source detailed, several shots were fired to terrorize the occupants and prevent any intervention. Security guards on motorcycles also reportedly came under fire as they attempted to approach the scene. No injuries were reported.
An investigation has been opened by the Diourbel Research Brigade to identify the perpetrators of this attack, GFM reports. Investigators are reviewing witness statements and any available CCTV footage. The prefect of Diourbel also visited the victims to offer his support.
