BTP : Les ouvriers listent les difficultés que traverse le secteur
The construction and public works sector is currently facing major challenges related to the economy, training, and safety. In response to this situation, the Union of Workers of Senegal (UOS) organized a technical workshop dedicated to the sector this Sunday, February 8, 2026, in Thiès. At this event, Abdoulaye Guèye, the spokesperson for the day, addressed the current crisis and the major concerns of the workers.
According to the UOS, the sector is going through a particularly difficult period marked by a slowdown in activity. "For some time now, several construction sites have been at a standstill. We have almost no clients left. The sector is no longer functioning," lamented Abdoulaye Guèye. He therefore called on the State to take urgent measures to free up and revive this pillar of the national economy.
The spokesperson also emphasized the rise in workplace accidents, a worrying trend for workers. He believes that employers' support for victims is largely inadequate. "It's rare to see a construction company fully cover the costs of a workplace accident," he lamented.
Faced with these shortcomings, the UOS is committed to providing support to injured workers and invites the Labour Inspectorate to fully play its role in guaranteeing the protection of workers' rights.
Founded in 2022, the Union of Workers of Senegal aims to unite all trades within the construction industry to better defend their interests and improve their living and working conditions. The organization also focuses on professional training in modern construction techniques. This approach seeks to combat the increasingly frequent technical errors and building collapses on some construction sites.
