Station d'Épuration de Cambérène : La bonne note du Vice-Président de la BID, Dr Rami S.Ahmad

A distinguished guest at the Cambérène station. The Director General of the National Sanitation Office of Senegal (ONAS), Séni Diène, received the Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in charge of operations.

The Vice President had a broad overview of the complex through a synoptic table. Project manager Ibrahima Mendes presented the processing chain and technological innovations. After this presentation, the delegation followed a route bordered on both sides by structures such as biodigesters, thicknesses, etc.

This brief immersion revealed to the guests the innovative aspects of the project. It is a projection between the present and the future in terms of treatment. "The IDB financed the construction of this infrastructure. It is almost ready. We will continue to support ONAS and the Government of Senegal," said the Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), a strategic partner with whom ONAS intends to continue its cooperation for the financing of other structuring projects.

A new processing center is emerging. The technologies integrated into the system take the work out of a generic framework.

"The new station is equipped with an odor treatment system, a cogeneration system that allows it to cover 70% of its electrical energy needs and a tertiary treatment unit with a capacity of 11,300 m3/day for the recovery of purified water," emphasized the Director General of ONAS, Séni Diène.

An impact on a million people

Funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Cambérène Water Treatment Plant Extension and Modernization Project, which will have positive effects in terms of improving the living environment in around ten municipalities, opens up all perspectives in terms of by-product recovery. "With this hub, we are laying the foundations for a circular economy with a daily production capacity of 11,300 m3 of reusable purified water for market gardening, arboriculture, horticulture, construction, among others.

The other derivative is stabilized sludge, an organic fertilizer that could revolutionize agriculture and horticulture without degrading the soil,” added the Director General of ONAS.
