The Thiès Decorative Arts Manufactory (MSAD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary (1966-2026). The official launch of this celebration took place on Thursday, December 4, 2025, and the entire year of 2026 will be dedicated to a series of activities to mark this historic anniversary for a national institution.

To mark this symbolic anniversary, the General Management, staff, partners, collaborators, and the entire Senegalese people have decided to celebrate and honor this heritage institution. It is a unique opportunity to recognize the tireless efforts of the staff, day and night, in preserving the artistic legacy of the Manufactures.

According to Bassirou Thiam, Director General of MSAD, the activities planned for 2026 are: colloquiums and conferences; local and international art exhibitions; travelling exhibitions across Senegal; highlighting the history and cultural impact of the Manufactures; and demonstrations and workshops in the regions.

Bassirou Thiam stated that the objective of these activities is to make the Manufactures an iconic symbol of Thiès, like the Eiffel Tower in Paris; to continue its recovery despite past challenges; to strengthen its national and international position; to support efforts to preserve and promote this unique artistic heritage; and to enhance the value of Senegalese tapestry in the world.

An ambitious program that marks a turning point in the cultural history of Thiès and Senegal. For Mr. Thiam, this date cannot go unnoticed. The countdown to 60 years has therefore begun, with commitment, pride, and determination.

The MSADs have a rich history, dating back to 1966, and have contributed to the artistic and diplomatic influence of Senegal. Founded by the first president of the Republic, Léopold Sédar Senghor, they have become a symbol of Senegalese art and culture.
