Cheikh Tidiane Dièye : « Ces infrastructures positionnent le Sénégal comme acteur de référence mondiale dans le secteur de l’eau et de l’assainissement »

Senegal continues to consolidate its position in the water and sanitation sector. This was stated by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, during the inauguration of sanitation facilities built by the National Sanitation Office of Senegal (ONAS).

“These achievements that we are celebrating today are part of a broader dynamic that positions Senegal as a leading global player in the water and sanitation sector. Our country is making its way with commitment and pride on the international stage. For example, we successfully organized the High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the United Nations Water Conference, which we are co-hosting with the United Arab Emirates, thus demonstrating our ability to mobilize the international community around vital water issues,” the Minister stated. The inaugurated facilities are part of the Rural Water and Sanitation Project (PEAMIR), which has also enabled the upgrading of hydraulic infrastructure under Public Service Delegations; the drilling of new boreholes and water supply systems in the most vulnerable areas; the installation of thousands of social connections that facilitate access to water for the poorest households; and the construction of public standpipes in residential areas.

“Nearly 380,000 additional people now have improved access to drinking water in rural areas, in addition to improved drinking water service quality for at least 1.5 million people throughout the intervention zone,” stated Minister Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye in his speech. He further reported that, in urban and peri-urban areas, with the support of SONES (National Water Company), 18,000 social connections have been installed for low-income families. This also includes the restructuring and strengthening of existing drinking water supply systems and the connection of rural communities to urban networks along the Tassette-Thiès axis. In total, an additional 162,000 people now benefit from improved access to drinking water in urban areas.

Bientôt, ils appelleront leurs casseurs à tout saboter pour ensuite leur remettre 5 milliards de francs CFA pour les récompenser.
