Protection de l’enfance : Le ministère de la Famille appelle à une mobilisation nationale face à la recrudescence des violences
The Ministry of Family, Social Action, and Solidarity has expressed its deep concern regarding the increasing number of cases of child sexual abuse and violence against children in Senegal. In a statement released on Saturday, February 21, 2026, the department responsible for child protection denounced these "unacceptable" acts and called for a general mobilization to safeguard the rights and safety of minors.
According to the ministry, this violence constitutes serious harm to the physical and psychological integrity of children, particularly those in vulnerable situations. It jeopardizes not only their development, but also the future of the nation.
The authorities reiterate that any act of violence, abuse, or exploitation against a child constitutes a crime severely punished by law. The State thus reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing a safe and protective environment for every child, in accordance with Senegal's national and international commitments regarding the protection of children's rights.
In this context, the ministry calls on all stakeholders – parents, religious and community leaders, teachers, civil society organizations, the media, and defense and security forces – to be extra vigilant. The goal is to prevent abuse, encourage the prompt reporting of suspected cases, and strengthen protection mechanisms.
The statement also emphasizes the importance of breaking the silence surrounding sexual violence, protecting victims, and ensuring they receive psychological, social, and legal support.
This appeal comes in a context marked by strong national emotion, particularly after the so-called "Pierre Robert" case, which highlighted the alleged existence of networks for the sexual exploitation of minors and the great vulnerability of some children, particularly those living on the streets or in precarious situations.
Without commenting on ongoing legal proceedings, the ministry stresses that these events underscore the urgent need to strengthen prevention, protection and repression measures.
For the authorities, child protection must remain an absolute priority and a responsibility shared by the whole of society.
